Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:8
Eating is something that most people like to do, especially if it is something that they like. What a person eats is very different from person to person. Some people love to eat healthy foods such as meats, fish, vegetables, grains, and dairy products. Others love to eat junk foods, candy, highly processed foods, sodas, alcohol, and other non-nutritional foods. Either way a person eats affects the person.
As Paul was talking about immorality in the church of Corinth, he said that they should keep the feast without the old leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Eating junk food can taste very good. It can make one feel very good for a moment. Later, however, the person’s body comes crashing down and makes things much worse in the end. It can destroy parts of the body.
The world believes that one can live any way one wants to and it is acceptable. Sinful living, malice, and wickedness are normal for the world. In the moment it feels good and there does not appear to be anything wrong with it. Immediately sin brings a separation between the person and God. Later it will bring about death.
Once a person becomes a believer, that person is to begin to eat new things, things that bring life. They are to turn from malice and wickedness and begin to take in sincerity and truth.
Jesus is the bread of life and Truth, and all believers are to partake of Him. He gives life and shows one how to really live a life that does not end in death.
What type of physical foods and bread you eat is a choice you can make. You have to decide if you want to be healthy or sick, live or die. In the same way, you have to make a choice of what spiritual bread you will eat–the unleavened bread of sin and wickedness, or the life-giving bread of Jesus with sincerity and truth.
Live the spiritual life God has intended for you to live by eating of His Bread, the Bread of Life. Leave behind you the junk food that the world feeds you of wickedness, sin, and death.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will eat of the Bread of Life; that you will live your life in the sincerity and truth that Jesus gives; and that God will give you the strength to stop eating of sin and death that the world offers; and that you will know the life Jesus offers you.
