Don’t Be Like Everyone Else

There will be pressure all around you to be like the world and follow the idols of this world.

But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. Revelation 9:20

Fitting in and being like everyone else is common. No one wants to be alone in their walk through life. They want to be accepted by others and so become like others in their character, actions, and words. Being like others trumps doing what is right.

John’s vision was of the end times when God was pouring out His wrath upon the earth. Even though many died of plagues, those left would not repent of their sin and continued to worship idols that cannot do anything.

It is easy for one to see all of the dangers of drugs and alcohol, yet many continue to take both without a care in the world of the dangers. They want to have their pleasure, even if it can cost them friendships, their health, and their life.

In the same way, the world pushes worshipping of idols. People everywhere are worshipping physical things all the time. They may not bow down to them as in ancient days, but they give their lives, money, and time to them. Warnings are given on selling oneself out to an item, but most ignore those warnings and continue the worship. Peer pressure keeps people going after false idols.

Although it appears the world is getting away with following idols, there will come a day of judgment. God will strike and destroy those who do not worship Him.

Followers of Jesus will repent of following false idols. They will reject the ways of the world and go a different path than that of everyone else. They will not be like the rest.

There will be pressure all around you to be like the world and follow the idols of this world. You will have to make a choice as to who or what you will follow. Following the idols will bring about God’s judgment. Following Jesus will bring about life.

Take time to repent of following any idols in your life. Give them up and follow God. Do not be like the rest of the world that refuses to repent and bring on the judgment of God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any idols in your life; that you will repent of following any idols; that God will not have to bring His wrath upon you; and that God will give you strength to be separate from the world.
