Doing as Commanded

Believers need to fully trust every word and command of God, regardless of how crazy it may appear to be.

Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, Matthew 1:24

Commands are something that people are given nearly every place that they go. Most often they are found in rules. Employers give commands on how to do the work. States and cities give commands on how fast to drive on the different types of roads, along with many other types of commands for nearly everything imaginable. Everyone is expected to obey the commands given with consequences of not obeying and obeying those commands.

Matthew writes about Joseph getting a vision of an angel who gives him some commands about Mary. Joseph immediately does what he is commanded and takes Mary as his wife.

Commands are usually fairly easy to follow and accept, especially when they make sense. Although most commands have some good logical sense as to why one would follow them, there are some commands that don’t always make sense.

Following commands that don’t make sense is often a struggle for most people. It is at that point that most people choose to disregard the command and do their own thing.

Believers are required to obey all of the commands of God. Since God’s ways and thoughts are above the ways of people, His commands do not always make sense, such as in the case of Joseph being told to marry Mary, who was pregnant outside of wedlock.

It can be difficult to obey those commands unless one completely trusts God’s ways. Believers need to fully trust every word and command of God, regardless of how crazy it may appear to be. Then the believer must be willing to immediately get up and obey His commands.

In obeying His commands, it may be that the believer may be playing a part that will change the world as Joseph did.

You have commands of the nation that you must obey on a daily basis. In the same way, God has commands of you. Be willing to be open to hearing what God is saying and the commands He is giving you. As soon as you hear a command from God, whether in a dream, through another person, or from His word, be willing to immediately get up and obey it. Do not remain asleep and ignore what God has to say to you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God commands you; that you will trust the whole word of God; that you will immediately obey every command God gives you; and that God will use you to change the world around you for His kingdom.
