Destruction of Idols

God wants to be on the throne of the believer’s heart so that nothing else is worshipped.

Your carved images I will also cut off, and your sacred pillars from your midst; you shall no more worship the work of your hands;

Micah 5:13

People are proud of the things that they are able to make on their own. As a result, they take extremely high care for those things, often to the point of ignoring other things. Things will become idols of a type of worship to many with the amount of care and focus that it put upon them.

Micah records God saying how He will get rid of the carved images and sacred pillars of the people so that they will no longer worship the things that they have made.

Focus is always placed on what a person can do and have. People will go to extreme measures to care for what they have accomplished in their personal lives. Money becomes of no concern in what it may take to care for some idolized object. Things become things of worship.

Acting in this way can also be found in the lives of some believers. One builds up some ministry in the church and one begins to worship that position or ministry above God. More time and focus are placed on things than on the relationship with God. The things made by the hands of a person become idols in one’s life.

God wants to come into the life of the believer and cut off all the idols in one’s life. He wants to be on the throne of the believer’s heart so that nothing else is worshipped.

Every believer needs to worship God alone and not the things that one has made. All those things are temporary and dead and cannot help a person in the end.

There are things in your life that you have made or accomplished. It may be that some of those things are attempting to take the place of God in your life. The amount of time and effort spent on those things have caused them to become an idol of worship, taking the place of God.

Allow God to cut off those idols in your life. Realize that those carved images are dead and are unable to help you or save you. Put God back on the throne of your heart. Worship the Lord your God and only worship Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to remove any idols in your life; that you will worship God alone; that God will be on the throne of your heart; and that God will be the center of your life.
