Blessings of Daniel – Part 2

God saw and approved of Daniel’s faithfulness to Him, giving Daniel favor before men.

Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.
Daniel 1:9 (NKJV)

The first blessing found in today’s verse is favor with men; Daniel’s request to eat simple foods so as not to spiritually defile himself was favored by Nebuchadnezzar’s chief eunuch, who was in charge of Daniel and his brethren. As previously stated, Daniel wanted to honor God and sought permission from the eunuch in a most gracious manner so as not to cause offence.

God saw and approved of Daniel’s faithfulness to Him, giving Daniel favor before men. This is not an isolated incident in God’s Word; in Genesis 39, we find the story of Joseph sold as a slave in Egypt – he found favor initially in the eyes of Potiphar, his master. He later found favor before the prison keeper and also before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. Further, we find this Godly priciple confirmed in Proverbs 16:7: When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

In our verse today, Daniel’s faithfulness is rewarded by God’s Spirit working in the eunuch. In this blessing, Daniel and his brethren were enabled to serve God without coming into conflict with the Babylonians. Daniel was quick to attribute the blessing to the actions of God, seeking to further glorify Him in further ways.

Dear Reader, we may not be a Daniel, but we can learn from his gracious faith amongst men. As God blessed him with favour in the sight of others, God can bless us in this manner amongst those we meet today. Such blessings are opportunities to honour our Father God in this world, sharing His love with those in need of knowing Him.
