Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13 (NASB)
I have always been impressed by this verse, particularly the last few words: [they] “began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.” Compared to the rulers that they were standing before, Peter and John were definitely unqualified laborers – yet they spoke as well-qualified men. It raises an important question for Christians: Would we be recognized as having been with Jesus?
This was not them being in the presence of any random person but of the Son of God, someone whom they loved and followed. Recently, I was touched to hear that a brother in church had complimented another’s sermons, saying that “he could hear that he really loves the Lord!”
Dear Reader, let us examine ourselves in the light of this verse today. Can those we meet recognize that we have been with Jesus and that we really love the Lord?
