Be a Bright Light

This light is showing the world the truth found in God’s word.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

Driving at night a person can see a city from a long way off. This is even more true if the city is set up on top of a hill. All the bright lights of the city can be seen from many miles away. The lights will shine up into the sky to where one can see the light in the sky, while not seeing the lights directly. Inside the city, it can be bright enough that it almost looks like day whether day or night.

Jesus told the people that they are the light of the world and that a city that is set upon a hill cannot be hidden.

Although there are billions of lights throughout the world to light it up, the world is dark. It is dark due to the sin that is done and promoted on a daily basis. Many crimes are often committed during the dark hours of the night. This is done so that no one can see what is occurring.

It is said that darkness is only the absence of light. All light has been removed so that only darkness remains.

Believers are to shine the light of God that is within them. This light is showing the world the truth found in God’s word. It is revealing what Jesus had done on the cross for each and every person.

As the believer shines forth that light, that believer stands out as different. One can no longer be a believer who is hidden in the dark. There is a bright light shining forth that the whole world can see. One becomes like the city on the hill for all the world to see.

The moment you chose to believe in Jesus for salvation you became one who is set apart as different. As your sin was removed God placed His light in you to shine before all the world to see. Do not be afraid of shining that light, do not try to hide. The world needs to see that light so that they can have a chance to believe in Jesus Christ for their own salvation. The light of Jesus shining through you will expose the death in this world and the need for Jesus.

Are you a shining bright light for the world to see?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be the bright light God has called you to be; that you will be willing to shine the light of God for all to see; and that you will not try to hide the light of God from the world.
