Ask God What to Do Next

Do not rely upon yourself or the world to give you direction in this life.

So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:6

Having a planner will guide many people as to what they must do next on their agenda for that day or in the days to come. Knowing what needs to be put on that planner is often up to the individual, but sometimes it takes the planning of someone else to guide them. This is most commonly seen in a workplace situation.

Luke records in Acts that when Saul (later Paul) saw a vision of Jesus, he was terrified and asked Him what He wanted him to do. Jesus told him to go into the city and he would be told what was next.

Walking into a new job is a learning experience for any person. One has to learn what needs to be done and how to do it. Usually, there are various steps to be taken to accomplish any job. The way to learn it is to ask questions of those in authority as to what to do. Pleasing the boss is part of keeping the job.

Going through life, there are many different situations that people must walk through. Choices abound as to what to do next in every situation. The world and individuals claim to know what the best next step would be, yet, that step often continues to lead down a path towards death.

Rather than looking to the world or self to know what to do next, believers are to ask God. He is waiting and ready with an answer as to what the next step should be that will lead to life. Then the believer is to step out in faith and follow God’s directions.

Knowing what to do next can sometimes be puzzling for you. Choices abound that many look good, but you know that there is only one best choice. Do not rely upon yourself or the world to give you direction in this life. Both will fail you and lead you down the wrong path.

Seek God’s infinite wisdom and direction. Ask God what you must do next, and He will lead and guide you by His Holy Spirit. Step out in faith knowing God knows what is best for you and do what God tells you to do.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek God’s guidance on what to do; that you will hear God’s directions for your life; and that you will step out in faith and do what God tells you to do.
