Are You a Co-Worker?

Be the co-worker that does the job that needs to be done and builds others up at the same time.

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, Philemon 1:1

Every business that has more than two or three workers has co-workers who work together to some point or more. For the business to be successful, they must work together in unity and for the same purpose to build the business up. When two or more work together, things can be done much easier, and greater things can be accomplished. Refusing to work together will cause disunity and destruction, causing the business to fail.

Paul opens his letter to Philemon calling Philemon a friend and a co-worker.

While most workers know their co-workers, very few are actually friends with them. They go to work, do what is needed, and then go home. Each one will do what is needed and get out of the way of others. Many will even step on others to push others down so that they can get to the top.

Occasionally some will become friends with each other and build up their relationship together, knowing that they need each other to be successful.

Churches that are alive are filled with workers. Each believer has a job to do in building God’s kingdom. Although they are all building God’s kingdom, many will fight with each other. Just as the world does, many will step on others pushing them down to look better.

Instead of stepping on others, believers are to work together with others. Each person has a specific job to do in God’s kingdom. Working as a team will build God’s kingdom faster. It will also demonstrate His love for the world to see as believers love each other. It brings about unity, rather than the division that the world promotes.

You may or may not have a regular paying job to do, but you do have a job to do in God’s kingdom. In doing this job, you will have to work alongside others at times. Be the co-worker that does the job that needs to be done and builds others up at the same time.

Do not allow yourself to slack on the job and put more of a burden upon others, or step on others to build yourself up. Do the work God has called you to do. Work alongside others to build His kingdom.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the work God has for you to do; that God will give you strength to work alongside other believers; that God will give you unity among the co-workers; and that God’s kingdom will be built up here on earth.
