For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 5:9
Parents will often set some goals for their children. Their focus is on helping get their child through schooling and to become very successful in life. Very few parents set out to make their child’s life miserable and to cause their child to fail, though some will cause problems at times with bad decisions having been made. Most will go the extra mile and sacrifice part of themselves for their child to make it.
As Paul begins to close out this letter to the Thessalonians, he points out that God is not focused on pouring out wrath upon them, but on giving them salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Going through life, many people have to deal with many different struggles that are painful and extremely difficult. Sickness, death, debt, loss of friendships, injuries, poverty, and much more attack people on a regular basis. All that appears to be happening is trouble rather than blessings.
As life occurs in this manner, many begin to blame God for what is happening. They feel that God is only out to get them and destroy them. Anger against God rises, causing one to run away from God rather than towards Him as we believe the lies of the enemy about God’s character.
Feelings like these can often occur in the hearts and minds of people in the church. They feel that God is only pouring out His wrath upon them and does not love them at all.
Rather than believing these lies, a person must understand that God loves the person with an undying and perfect love. God does not want to strike a person and pour out wrath upon the person. He wants to save the person through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ upon the cross.
As you go through difficulties in life it is easy to begin to believe the lies of the enemy that God is only out to harm you. God is not pouring out wrath upon you. It is the enemy coming against you to stop you from believing in Jesus. God has appointed you to be saved through Jesus Christ. Believe the words of God, not the lies of the enemy. Walk in the salvation that Jesus provides and know God’s love for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know that God does not want to pour out His wrath upon you; that God will open your eyes to the lies of the enemy; and that you will know the joy of His salvation.
