Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6 (NASB1995)
Recently, we saw an answer to prayer in our house – it was something we had been praying about for some time. We had a long-standing problem with an abusive and confrontational neighbour over a period of time. Nothing we did seemed to help. Therefore, we surrendered it to Father God in regular prayer. On reflection, we should have prayed from the beginning, but we, being human, tried to resolve matters in our own way.
After a matter of several weeks, we rose early yesterday, surprised to see our neighbours loading a removal truck – and now they are gone! Our prayers had been for Father God to resolve the matter in whatever way He saw fit; yesterday was an answer to those prayers.
Today’s verse is applicable in all the needs of God’s children, no matter how unreasonable it seems in the human mind – God is interested in our every need. Prayers that we offer should be offered confidently, knowing that God hears and will answer in His perfect time. Our faith in God is built on the final four words of verse five: “The Lord is near.”
Dear Reader, your Father God is near; He hears and answers your prayers. According to the next verse, He also covers you in His peace and guards you in the power of Christ, your Lord and Saviour. This is the power of your God who answers prayer – may you be encouraged in Him today.
