Abide With Me

“Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.”
1 Samuel 22:23 (KJV)

There is no greater reassurance than feeling safe, particularly in the company of a strong protector. This was the case for Abiathar whom David addressed in this scripture verse; he had narrowly escaped the slaughter of his town in Nob. The priests of Nob had been condemned by King Saul for helping David, and Doeg was carrying out the sentence passed by the King. Abiathar had fled and sought protection with David in the wilderness.

I remember seeking safety on occasions when some sought to do me great harm; and I found protection in the care of God, through prayer. The words of today’s verse are as pertinent to the child of God. If we seek to abide in His care He will answer our prayers, then we can proclaim the truth of Psalm 3:3 “But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”

Dear Reader, we need not seek mighty men as Abiathar did, when Almighty God is our Father! In Him we can be assured of abiding in security.
