A Promise Kept

The Holy Spirit remains in us strengthening and guiding us each day…God keeps His promises!

And it shall come to pass afterward
That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
And also on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
Joel 2:28-29 (NKJV)

This morning’s verses for meditation come from the prophecy of Joel (penned about 835 BC approximately) regarding the restoration of Israel after their exile and their redemption by God. Eight hundred and sixty-eight years later, on the day of Pentecost, the promised Holy Spirit came upon those gathered. Peter preached boldly quoting today’s scripture, proclaiming that the prophecy was being fulfilled before the eyes of those watching on in amazement (Acts 2). Yet Peter begins with “And it shall come to pass in the last days…” rather than “afterward.” The last days begin with the coming of Christ (Hebrews 1:2) and end with His glorious return in the end – therefore, the Holy Spirit is for all believers in the last days.

Dear Reader, the promise of the Holy Spirit for all believers has been kept from the first mention of it in Joel and is still being fulfilled today in our lives as children of God who serve Him. It is one of the most precious promises that we have in our lives today. By contrast, there have been many promises by people we know, and some have broken their promises, which has caused pain – but the Holy Spirit remains in us strengthening and guiding us each day…God keeps His promises! May we remain close to Father God, holding onto the blessings of His promises in our lives today.

Dear Father God, Creator, and Promise Keeper, I bow before You today. I surrender all that I have to Your worship and service today. In my humanity I am weak; I need Your Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen me for Your service each day. Holy Spirit blow over me today that I may glorify my Lord and Saviour today. AMEN.
