Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Isaiah 41:10 (NASB)
This familiar verse came to me recently, a timely reminder of God’s provision in recent trials. There is no shame in leaning on well-known scripture in a time of need; it is precisely why the Spirit leads us to such verses as I share today.
Although the verse primarily addresses the trials of the exiled Jews in Babylon, it is a great source of consolation for any child of God – in this verse, God says what He means, and means what He says – it is always applicable. Just as the Israelites were chosen, so are we who are saved in and through Jesus Christ, His beloved Son, and our Redeemer.
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
Psalm 27:1
The presence of the Triune God at our side is the best reason not to fear; as He was the protector of Israel in Babylon, He is our protector – our light and salvation. Our strength in our trials is not from our feeble flesh but from Him. There is no comparable consolation in this world; they are weak compared to our Almighty God. He is not only present but is also listening when we call in our distress; “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)
Dear Reader, I am comforted by His Word, His presence, and His promised provision in these verses today. The storms of life cannot dull the light of His glory! May we all quote the words of Paul with complete confidence: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 KJV).
