But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD;
I will wait for the God of my salvation.
My God will hear me.
Micah 7:7 (NASB)
I don’t know about you, but I think the ability to wait patiently is an admirable quality. I saw this in action on Saturday morning while in a supermarket carpark. It wasn’t another driver waiting for a parking space, but it was a Herring Gull standing at the side of a car eye-balling the driver who was eating a snack. The bird in question was virtually standing to attention, with no intention of moving without a reward. Its intimidation tactics paid dividends, the driver threw a scrap of their snack to the bird before quickly closing the window again.
I chuckled at the scene as I parked up to go shopping. But it reminded me of the believer’s situation in prayer before God; that they wait expectantly upon Him. As the gull’s patience is rewarded, so is the patience of the child of God who seeks His provision. But the comparison is changed to a contrast; the gull receives scraps, but the child of God receives from the riches of Heaven by the hand of God Almighty.
Dear Reader, may we learn from the humble Herring Gull in a supermarket carpark. Let us offer up our prayers to our Heavenly Father expectantly; knowing that He can and will answer us in His perfect timing.
In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.
Psalm 5:3
