So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 (NASB)
I have been delighted by the increase in avian visitors to our bird table this winter (about two dozen on average at peak times), which I see from my armchair every morning. The increase is mostly due to a relocation of the table from the middle of the garden to a sheltered corner nearer the conifers and hedge. This morning we had a large number of visitors: Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits, Chaffinch, Robin, Greenfinches, and Goldfinches. In fact, the numbers of the last two have been the most I have ever seen at one time; obviously, they like the location of the Kearns buffet.
One thing that was of interest to me was at one point I thought the table and feeders were deserted of diners, then I looked on the ground and saw six Goldfinches gleaning dropped seed under the feeders. It is similar to another fact; our bird table doesn’t need sunny weather to be busy, it can be extremely busy on rainy days too…which is probably just as well in the Scottish climate.
This reminded me of Gospel Seeds that we share in our own lives; the timing and location are important with God’s sustenance as well. Some places are better for sharing our faith than others and will receive a better response. We may think that no one is listening, that they may be just polite listeners, but the Word of God always touches someone somewhere. Our words of gospel truth may be picked up by others not immediately seen; it could be an individual listening on the periphery or who hears it later. That rejected Gospel tract may be picked up and read by someone else!
Dear Reader, Father God can use many things to direct how we share His Gospel message; even watching birds in the morning as the sun rises. It is my humble prayer that my thoughts from feeding our garden birds will encourage and bless you today.
