Spring has come and the ground has been prepared to receive the seeds that will produce a great harvest and multiply your return. Both the natural and spiritual soil is rich and prepared for the planting of seeds. I hear the Spirit saying that what is planted in the early hours of this new season and in this well-prepared soil will bring forth an abundant supply for you in the days to come.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8,
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
The Lord had promised to bless and multiply your seed generously as you sow generously. I awoke today to see blue sky and new green Spring leaves covering all of the trees around. New buds are on our plants, and the doves have returned to their nest on our front porch. As I looked upon all of this new life, new growth and the vibrant colors all around me, I knew it was time to plant our garden.
Then I heard the Spirit say, “Sow generously— reap generously!” I knew that it was not just a word for me but for many. We do not sow seeds sparingly and hope for an abundant harvest. We sow generously into good soil, knowing that it will produce all that we need and provide for others as well.
Your Heavenly Father longs to prosper you in every way because He loves you. It brings him joy to bless you and pour out generously upon you. But he loves to bless the faith of those who sow seeds. They sow into the soil of his Kingdom and receive back the bounty of his Kingdom! God set it up this way and it works.
Even the widow in Luke 21, who offered all she had (though it appear small to the rich), sowed generously.
“While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins. ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus said, ‘this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.’” Luke 21:1-3
Many years ago, when my husband and I and our four children were living in another country for a ministry assignment, we had a time when no financial support had come in and we were facing great need. Our visas did not allow us to work to earn money in that nation so we were praying for a miracle. During that time of need, we were at our church and during the offering time, the Lord spoke to me. Although we had no money in our bank account to give, he reminded me that I had coins in the bottom of my purse. He asked me to give them all. Reluctantly (because I needed to buy some food for our kids), I dug to the bottom of my purse and gave all that I had, which turned out to be about the equivalent of $7 USD. It wasn’t much of an offering, but it was all that we had. The very next Sunday, my husband and I were called to the front of the church, where the senior pastor said that the Lord asked him to honor us by having the people pour coins into our laps. People came forward and poured not only coins but bills and checks into our laps. When the money was counted, it exceeded $7,000.00! He had asked us to sow all that we had in faith knowing that he was already planning to pour out far more than we could ask or imagine.
Our obedience to sow generously (according to what he asked) was rewarded generously. Obedience is key to remain in the alignment of His Kingdom ways. I once was shown a vision of a water pipe and it had a large kink in it that was causing the flow of water to be cut off. Only a small trickle was able to get through. Then I saw the word “withholding” at the place where the link was stopping the flow. I heard the Lord say, “Sow generously and obediently!” And as obedience to that word took place, the pipe was straightened out and water began to flow freely and was distributed where it was intended to go. Then I heard the words,
“Obedience opens the flow of abundance.”
Then Deuteronomy 28:1-14 came to me,
“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.”
It is now the time to plant your seeds! The new season has come and the ground is prepared to receive your seeds. Obey with a cheerful heart and with the confidence that there are great promises attached to each seed that you sow.
“But my God shall supply all of your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:1
