The Way Back

God made a way back, the minute He put them out.

Here is one of my favorite revelations in scripture.

Genesis 3:24

So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

We have all read it at least 50 times.

But it’s funny how you can read something over and over and miss it completely, yet there it was waiting for us to discover it.

Let’s read it again….

Genesis 3:24

So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

There Adam and Eve are kicked out of the garden. So, here you and I have been – also not in the garden.

If you look at antique artwork the angel appears to be shaming Adam and Eve. He is shown pointing at them to leave. He looks really mean and really stern.

But is that theologically correct?

Let’s read it again.

Genesis 3:24

So He drove out the man; (Adam and Us)

and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, (Angels – plural…but we will get to that later…standing guard)

and a flaming sword which turned every way,

Don’t miss this:

Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Now back to Genesis 3:24…

to guard the way to the tree of life.

Not away from the Tree of Life.

The Way Back!

Back, Back, Back!!

To guard THE WAY BACK TO THE TREE OF LIFE!

Who is The Way?

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am THE WAY and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The sword = God’s Word.

The Way = Jesus = Back to The Tree of Life

And that beloved is Genesis 3:24.

God made a way back, the minute He put them out.

That is THE LOVE of THE FATHER.

Other fun and fascinating facts:

It wasn’t cherubim singular.

That would be Cherub.

It was plural.

My guess is two.

Like the two angels outside of Jesus’ tomb.

Like the two cherubim on each side of The Mercy Seat.

In Hebrew, Cherubim means a celestial winged being who represents God’s Spirit on Earth and symbolizes the worship of God.

God’s Spirit (Holy Spirit – Singular)

Two by two He set them to guard

THE WAY BACK.
