The Offering of Strange Fire

They have side-stepped real relationship with Jesus Christ in order to pursue fame, fortune, and personal glory.

Not many Christians are probably familiar with the term “Strange Fire.” It’s not only found in the word of God, but I believe that there are many people operating in it today.

“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not.” Leviticus 10:1

While it actually took quite a bit of research to discover what this Strange Fire was, when the Holy Spirit revealed what they had actually done, I was surprised and amazed.

The Word “Strange” in this passage doesn’t mean odd or unusual like I originally thought that it did, but rather it means “To Commit Adultery!”

When I saw this, the Holy Spirit began to speak and He said, “Strange Fire comes from another spirit and another relationship other than true relationship with God, because the source of the fire they were using wasn’t lit by Me!”

You see the fire that Nadab and Abihu used to light their censers didn’t come from the Altar of Burnt Sacrifice like what God required (which represents the Cross of Jesus Christ). They got their fire from another place.

Real relationship with God, can only come through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ upon the Cross, which is the avenue that God used to impart the Fire of the Holy Spirit to every one of us as Sons and Daughters of God.

To use any other source for Fire, other than the Holy Spirit, is like Adultery in God’s eyes that we are committing with another spirit other than His! Strange Fire is stepping outside of our relationship with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Heavenly Father and dabbling in spiritual idolatry.

While Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord under the Old Covenant for doing this, there are many in the Church world that are doing the same thing. While they haven’t died physically for doing it, they are spiritually dead. They have side-stepped real relationship with Jesus Christ in order to pursue fame, fortune, and personal glory instead of valuing real intimacy with God.

“Behold, all you [enemies of your own selves] who attempt to KINDLE YOUR OWN FIRES [and work out your own plans of salvation], who surround and gird yourselves with momentary sparks, darts, and firebrands that you set aflame!—walk by the light of your SELF-MADE FIRE and of the sparks that you have kindled [for yourself, if you will]! But this shall you have from My hand: you shall lie down in grief and in torment.” Isaiah 50:11

While “Kindling Your Own Fire” may seem like a good way to achieve fame, fortune, and glory in the short term, the end of those things is called Works of Iniquity (Luke 13:27).

There’s simply no substitute for the Real Fire of the Holy Spirit that is Lit by the Resurrection Power of the Cross of Jesus Christ! Anything less than the Real Power Outflowing from the Resurrection will pale in comparison to what the Holy Spirit wants to do through us!

“Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; BE AGLOW AND BURNING WITH THE SPIRIT, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11

Stop lighting your own fires! Ask the Lord to come and set your life Ablaze with the Fire of the Holy Spirit, so that when you’re burning, you are burning for Him and Him only!
