Strength for the Weary, Part 7

One of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to lead us to Jesus, always connecting us to Him; and always glorifying Him.

As I began asking the Lord what He wanted to address next in our series, I sensed the need to stay parked on the theme of relationships.  I felt that the Lord wanted to teach us more about relationships since it is His desire to be in relationship with His children.

If you are feeling weary about your relationship with God, or if you are upset with Him concerning your life circumstances, stop and take the time to get your relationship right with God.

He is your Daddy.  Talk with Him!  He will honor you as you put Him first and seek to put things in order. He often will then make a way to repair other relationships in your life that have gone sour.

So, where do we begin?

Start at the beginning!  We begin with the one who is the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and Omega. His name is Jesus.  We know, “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in the closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”  John 1: 17-18, NIV

What can we make of this verse?

We need to have a relationship with Jesus to be in relationship with God, for they are One.

The entire reason Jesus came to the earth is so that mankind could be brought back into a right relationship with God.

We cannot separate Jesus from God. Without Jesus, we cannot have eternal life.

That’s why over and over again, we hear the phrase, “We are one.”  False religions continually separate Jesus from God.  They may make statements that Jesus was a prophet, but they will not say, “He is God.”

We are told that God is love. How does He show us love?  Here’s the answer:  “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.”1 John 4: 9, NIV Yes, God (love) came down!

God wants us, His children, to have a full-blown relationship with Him, so He sent a form of Himself into the world.  That human form was Jesus, God in the earth.

This is why we are to live IN Christ, so the love of God is completed in us.  How? “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.”  1 John 4: 15, NIV

So where is the Holy spirit, part of the Trinity, in all of this?   “We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”  1 John 4: 12, NIV

The Holy Spirit, part of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), connects us into that Oneness.

One of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to lead us to Jesus, always connecting us to Him; and always glorifying Him.

This is why we are told that we must test the spirits.   “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”  1 John 4: 1, NIV

SO, WHAT ARE THE TAKE AWAYS FROM ALL OF THIS:

  • The Father is yearning to be in right relationship with us.
  • Getting closer to God is through Jesus and Jesus alone.
  • Our good works do not get us in relationship with God.
  • Good works are a by-product of being IN Christ.
  • The precious Holy Spirit always leads and connects us with the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

Before I finished this article, I just happened to pick up a Devotional that I have read over and over again. It is from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

If you are weary, I exhort you with this: “Come to Me with your defenses down, ready to be blessed and filled with My Presence.  Relax, and feel the relief of being totally open and authentic with Me.  You have nothing to hide and nothing to disclose, because I know everything about you already.  You can have no other relationship like this one.  Take time to savor its richness, basking in My golden Light.”

In our weariness, in our broken and severed relationships, recognize that the Godhead is summoning us to Himself to strengthen our relationship first with Him, then with others.
