You saw my potential,
During confusing strife.
You heard my heartbeat,
Through the brokenness of life.
When others saw sin,
You knew my regret,
Father God, you celebrate the me
I’ve not become, yet.
In a world of pain,
You feed my healing.
The fires of shame
wash away.
And from the shadows, I rise,
With purpose in my eyes,
and strength uncompromised.
You see beyond
the world’s condemnation.
Carry us through
our deep devastation.
The earthquakes of choice,
hurricanes of desire,
volcanic eruptions of pride.
The moment we lie.
To you, to ourselves.
Yet, you pull another
bandage off the shelf.
But place it on You.
Because living in my sin,
Your blood streams through.
You died.
For people like me,
and moments like this.
Betrayed again
by more than a kiss.
Backs turned toward darkness,
Light escapes their view.
Humble surrender
will turn back to You.
You hold true.
To your love,
your Word,
your promises.
All fulfilled in my emptiness.
Waterfalls cascade,
As darkness rolls away.
Joy uncontained.
Life sustained.
That’s my God.
Where hope exists
and mercy reigns.
Forgiveness is found
on darker days.
He rescues those
in a single cry.
He holds the tears
from red-stained eyes,
cradles the lonely,
disciplines in love.
Lifts the spirit within,
All from above.
This world has nothin’
on my God.
It fades what He
intends to shine.
Ignites division,
empowers ego-ridden ways.
Pours fear into peace.
Not my God.
His peace always stays.
The world loves bitterness,
rage and anger.
Resentment and hate
keep it alive.
But my God,
His Son,
the way,
the truth,
the life.
An innocent man,
the final sacrifice.
Atonement I’ll never understand.
He took it all.
He conquered the world
when he defeated death.
The mystery of love,
we can’t comprehend.
But I accept.
You held me when broken;
called me out of sin.
You carried my burdens
when I let no one in.
You chose me with purpose.
And declared it to be.
Of the millions in the world,
You still love me.
And I love you.
For living in the world
will never do.
I choose eternity.
Hope. Mercy.
Forgiveness. Truth.
Father God,
I promise forever,
I choose YOU.
