Live a Quiet Life

When I don’t try to play Holy Spirit in your life, my peace remains.

Why was this written?

Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Because in the peace of God, you can hear the voice of God.

It’s in the quiet of the morning that I hear my Father clearly.

Before the crazy.

Before the rat race.

Before the demands of the day.

I can hear my Father speaking.

But it’s that next line that so easily gets glossed over…

“Mind your own business”

In the original Greek, it says….

“Attend to your own”

I don’t need to worry myself with how others are walking with God.

Because I’m not God.

In the quiet of the morning, God isn’t talking to me about you.

He’s talking to me, about me.

He’s sharing with me what He wants from me.

His plans for me.

How He desires to course correct me.

He’s highlighting where I need to come closer.

He’s refining me.

I can promise you, He’s not speaking to me about your shortcomings.

He’s not asking me to put you on blast on a public platform.

He’s not telling me how you got it wrong, or what’s wrong with your denomination, or how you should be raising your children.

In my quiet time.

In my peaceful time.

In my coffee time with Jesus….

He’s talking to me about how I can change my walk to be closer to Him.

His plans for my children, and my generations.

He is polishing the rough areas of my life.

He’s developing my patience, my perseverance, and deepening my faith.

He’s showing me my sin.

That’s my business.

That’s my focus.

That’s my responsibility.

If I’m focused on you, I’m deflecting from what still needs to be done in me.

So, I will focus on my quiet life.

My walk with Jesus.

My relationship with Him.

I am here to share the gospel, the good news, and to declare the word of the Lord.

One thing I have learned over time is this…

I make a really poor Holy Spirit.

And when I don’t try to play Holy Spirit in your life, my peace remains.

My focus is on He and I.

God has asked me to mind my own business and attend to my own.

And that last line….

“Just as you were told before”

If God has taken the time to repeat Himself, I should take note and obey.

And so it shall be.
