October 21, during my time in the Word, I was led to Psalm 2 and as I read through it, I felt a strong warning to the “kings and rulers of this earth” and even of our nation (the USA)— to those who have been given governmental authority and seats of power. This was the verse that the Spirit spoke through,
Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” Psalms 2:10-12
I have spoken to a number of people recently who feel an alert— a weighty alert in their spirits. They don’t necessarily know what it is concerning but feel that it is something that is to come. If you are feeling this weight of intercession, it may be that you are called to pray for those who are filling governmental seats of authority but are walking in contempt toward God and his law.
We know that Psalm 2 goes on to say,
Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”
Psalms 2:12
We do not desire the destruction of any man or woman (for evil to be destroyed but for people to come to repentance). We need to not only pray for those we agree with but for those who have made themselves an enemy of God. They are being exposed and if they do not repent they will suddenly find that their way has led them to destruction. Let us cry out for mercy and for their hearts to be turned to God in repentance. We pray for the fear of the Lord to come upon those who sit in seats of authority.
We saw this exposure and the removal of positions begin in the church and it is now moving to governmental leaders. Those scoffers who treat God’s people and the people that they were put in place to serve with contempt— and who treat God with contempt are at risk of sudden destruction.
We are called to pray. God did not give us permission to slander or allow contempt to come into our hearts for these people— for we are not merely dealing with flesh and blood but unseen powers and principalities. We do not fight evil with evil but we fight evil with our love and through intercession. We can recognize the evil acts and agendas that they are carrying out and the demonic powers that are ruling them, but God desires their freedom more than their destruction.
Do not fear the power in the hands of those who use their power for evil— for God laughs at their limited power and schemes.
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”” Psalms 2:4-6
Though they scoff— we decree and stand with God declaring,
“No King but Jesus!”
