To agree or not to agree: the stakes are high.
Conscious and Subconscious Agreements
Agreements are legally binding.
Sometimes, agreements are made consciously and intentionally. We agree and choose the person we marry.
Many times, agreements are made subconsciously and through deception and/or manipulation. For example, Eve was deceived into making an agreement with Father’s ancient enemy. The majority of our lives occur at the subconscious level; we are literally only aware of our surroundings a few seconds a minute (until we change that with the Lord).
Heaven on Earth
When Adam agreed with Heavenly Father, Heaven and Earth were one as Father designed. Do you know what that means? There has been Heaven on earth in the lifespan of the earth. Adam’s fall that affected us all broke the oneness of Heaven and Earth.
The Last Adam, our Lord Jesus Christ, agreed with Heavenly Father and all was restored. Yes. He reigns – and the plan is to enforce that oneness through His beloved – you and I. (The biggest obstacle is that the brokenness which exists in us interferes. However, we have the power to choose to come to Him daily for healing, restoration, and life.)
Usurp God?
Remember the tower of Babel? The people agreed to build an astrological tower to usurp Heavenly Father and rule from the Heavens. It went beyond agreement and into oneness. They were “all in.” Even though they weren’t believers, that oneness still worked. Heavenly Father visited them and enforced the boundary by confusing their language, or they would have succeeded.
Holy Spirit Released to Nations
Remember the day of Pentecost? The people were in one accord – they were agreed to the point of oneness and were prepared to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit who was released to the nations in one day.
Return to Simplicity and Centrality of Christ
The Lord is directing us to return to simplicity – and the power of right agreement.
In His last prayer, which is the most powerful, He prayed that His people would be one — and that’s in Him (John 17). Oneness builds on agreement.
1. It is essential and also urgent for His beloved sons and daughters to agree that the Lord Jesus Christ is central.
There are many beliefs and agreements that are at work in subversion against Him. This causes much damage at a much broader and deeper level than we’ve recognized. The alarming rhetoric, judicial activism, repercussions for faith and rightness, and violence against undeserving people start not with action, but with agreement and nurture.
The apostles lived and reproduced right agreement well – simple, powerful points of faith that people could know, remember, and agree on. The apostle Paul laid down a written foundation:
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. . .” (NIV, 1 Corinthians 15:3-5).
Around the fourth century, this recorded statement of faith was known. It’s called the Apostles’ Creed (www.crcna.org).
“I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.”
*that is, the true Christian church of all times and all places
In simplicity and power, The Apostles’ Creed sums up the central points of our faith and the centrality of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I exhort you to let it strengthen you in the foundation of your faith on the rock of the Lord Jesus Christ. Where we are out of agreement with Him, Father causes us to recognize it and to quickly adjust.
2. It is a now season to recognize where you can agree with others and to do so.
Many situations we experience arise from what we, or others, sowed. Reaping follows sowing.
For example, strife, animosity, hostility, offense, and their host of negative internal and external responses were sowed during the 2016 election season in the United States. It came with greater force because darkness was released that poured gas to greatly accelerate the fire in people (see Ephesians 6:12).
“They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind” (NIV, Hosea 8:9).
Here’s good news!
Humans are the God-given authority to rule this earth. If humans sowed those negatives such as strife, animosity, etc., then humans can uproot those negatives and change the harvest in Christ.
Here’s more good news!
We don’t have to wait for the “humans” to rise up and rule rightly.
As the sons of God, we can do it. He most often chooses a small group to change the world with Him.
The Lord directed me to share these two key points for right agreement in this now time. Prayer and opportunities.
Prayer
Where we participated and engaged with this dark plan to divide instead of unite and sowed the wind of all kinds of negative, flesh responses through our words, thoughts, agreements, and actions, Father, we confess and ask Your forgiveness and restoration in and through us and on earth in the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
Opportunities
Look for where you can agree with others, and sow that in as much love as possible. Don’t delay, start today (if possible)!
Invest for the Win
Like Jesus said, “a house divided against itself cannot stand” (Mark 3:25).
The house is His beloved people. The high stakes are our nations and generations. The time is now!
