You have enough of your own difficulties to deal with in addition to the tumultuous atmosphere in the nations.
This article is to share with you some practical ways to shift your physical body, your soul, and your spirit into a place where you can rest well and heal, daily. It is important that you do for yourself, your family, and to be ready for your “a time such as this” moments (Esther 4:14)!
On one of the health seminars I’ve listened to in the last few years, they were talking about breathing. So many “simple” things we take for granted, like breathing, are so crucial for our life and health! However, Father God “breathed the breath of life” into Adam, and it was noted in Scripture, so that should be a clue to its importance!
One of the presenters had made huge gains in recovering her health by working on mindful breathing—not huge gulps of air, or deep breaths, but focusing on light breaths which are slower with emphasis on coming from the abdomen. What she said about this one study stunned me in the great change it’s been, but made complete sense. She said that a study showed that people in the ‘40s took a large percentage of fewer breaths per minute that we do now, and it’s documented. What that means is that they were physically, and in their nervous systems, more at peace than our generations are—and therefore, healthier. As a result, they breathed fewer breaths a moment–lighter, and from the abdomen, and it impacted their health in a good way.
We have to be more mindful than they were to do this, but we can have these good effects, too. Practicing these breaths (light, slow, from the abdomen) in the evening in a bedtime routine and in the morning, just a minute or two’s worth, before getting out of bed makes an impact.
Stress—and fear—increase the breaths per minute and keep our nervous systems in hyper-drive. In that state, we don’t go into the daily rest-and-digest which is the healing state that Father God wired our bodies to be in—daily. It’s His will and design that we are renewed daily, a daily regeneration.
I want to share with you a couple of things that have been game-changers for me. One is GABA, the amino acid.
**Let it be stated here that you need to seek your own medical advice, that I am not a doctor, but am sharing this for educational purposes.
If you wake up with your mind racing at night and can’t get back to sleep, or if you’ve been on Keto, your GABA levels may be low. Trudy Scott, the nutritionist, said to take one capsule for stress symptoms to see how you handle it.
I’ve found that two capsules a couple of hours before bedtime really helps me physically shift gears, and has also helped with sleep. I recommend the NOW brand GABA 500 mg with Vitamin B-6 to help absorption (available on Amazon). Trudy also spoke about that it’s not necessary to get the highest dosage, as in 750 mg or above, and that absorption is key.
Also, turning off the screens and the lights for at least one hour before bedtime truly helps because their lights interfere with your brain’s production of melatonin which help you sleep—and throws your circadian rhythms off.
Finally, I wanted to share you this amazing channel on YouTube. Tim Janis, the composer, has created all these lovely, beauty-filled videos of Father God’s creation set to soothing music or instrumental hymns. He created it because he “wanted the world to be a happier place” and because he wanted to help people “find peace and relaxation.” Bless him! Click here for Tim Janis’s YouTube channel.
If you have his channel turned on before bedtime, but it’s several feet away from you, or you wear the orange glasses that block blue light from the screen (also available on Amazon), then his videos will totally help you shift gears and relax.
Shifting gears physically, and I have to add here also shifting gears spiritually by talking with the Lord about your day and handing over your burdens to Him, help your nervous system come back down from the hype of the day into peace and rest. That helps you go into much better sleep. Relaxation into sleep, not just dropping off from absolute exhaustion, helps your body go into rest and restoration mode—where it repairs itself overnight as Father God created it to do.
