Today, create a mental picture in your mind of two boys, brothers, who will receive the Father’s blessing? Jacob was extending his blessing to his grandsons, Manasseh, and Ephraim, Joseph’s sons. Joseph correctly positioned his sons with the oldest to be at Jacob’s right hand, (Manasseh) and the younger son, at his left hand (Ephraim). As Jacob proceeded with the blessing, he crossed his arms and blessed Ephraim as the firstborn, and Manasseh as the second born.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Jacob had stolen his older brother’s blessing from his younger brother, Esau. His mother had a part to play in that!
- Negative and positive family patterns are often repeated.
When Joseph tried to correct his father informing him he had the birthright incorrect, he refused saying, “I know, my son, I know.” (Genesis 48: 19)
- It’s not always God’s plan for the oldest to get the blessing.
- God chooses to bless those that we don’t expect.
Receiving the blessing from one’s father was of high honor in the Old Testament. Losing a blessing was similar to pronouncing a curse.
Today, the blessing of the Lord is upon us all, His children. He knows the end from the beginning. He knows who will enter into His promises.
- Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.
The flight out of Egypt as Moses led the Israelites, failed to enter because they refused to believe God’s promises.
What things entered into their decision that prevented them from entering?
- Rebellion
- Sin
- Disobedience
Always be careful what enters into our decision-making process.
“So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.” (Hebrews 3: 19)
The promise of entering still stands! What am I indicating?
Salvation is still available today! The blessing of the Father is still upon us. “For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile–the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, will be saved.” (Romans 10: 12-13)
Call on Him! “Fix your thoughts on Jesus…”(Hebrews 3: 1)
David in the book of Psalms is calling on God saying, “All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.” (Psalm 38: 9) He sees all we are going through. Turn to Him.
(Genesis 48, Hebrews 3: 1-4:13, Psalm 38, Paraphrased & Modified)
