God is Dealing with the Orphan Spirit

You can never learn to be a father, without first learning to be a son.

I believe one of the great detriments to the body of Christ in this hour is leaders who have not been delivered from an orphan spirit. The orphan spirit will cause you to always reject family no matter how much your heart yearns for it. It will cause you to rely on your gifting instead of the Spirit of God because there will always be a “need” to prove yourself and feel accepted by the majority.

It will partner with a spirit of rejection, and that will be the thorn in your side that will keep you from entering into the greater that God has for you. This spirit will keep you from ever entering true communion and relationship with the father and others because you will always feel unwanted, unloved, and undeserving of family. Everything will always be done in a spirit of competition, and no matter how much you want to celebrate another, in your heart of hearts you don’t want to see them succeed.

You can never learn to be a father, without first learning to be a son, and thus it has caused many to raise a battalion of rebels that they label as sons. A company of hurt people that have never received healing or deliverance, because those who are leading have never truly been set free, and you can never take someone where you yourself have not been.

I believe the Lord is dealing with the orphan Spirit in this hour, and bringing a sword of deliverance through the body of Christ. He is cleaning house from the pulpits to the pews and causing an emergence of true leaders who know how to lead because they first learned how to follow the Spirit of God. They are rising out of hidden places where their days have been spent at the feet of Jesus. They aren’t seeking platforms, but their heart desire is for the church of God to come into genuine family as one body, one bride, without spot or wrinkle.

There is a recalibration taking place right now, as the draw for community and unity is stronger than ever before. The Lord is reaching past denominational walls and barriers, He is reaching past a racially divided church, and He is calling the body of Christ to come together as true family as the spirit of adoption is being poured over a people.

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

-Romans 8:15

About the Author

Tyler Medina is a revivalist, author, and emerging prophetic voice with a passion to bring the church into a deeper life of intimacy with God. Tyler was marked by a radical encounter with Jesus at eighteen years old in a jail cell, facing twenty years in prison for a crime he did not commit. After this encounter, Tyler promised to preach the gospel wherever God would send him and declare the good news of Jesus Christ. He has spent the last ten years traveling throughout the United States and South America working with church plants to stir up the wells of revival in their regions. Anna Jo Medina is a worship leader, songwriter, author, teacher, and prophetic voice with a heart to draw people to the feet of Jesus through worship and teaching of the Word. Her heart’s cry is to spend her days at the feet of Jesus, breaking her alabaster box and showing others how to pour out their very best to the One who deserves it all. Together, Tyler and Anna Jo are the founders of Consuming Love Ministries, a ministry committed to strengthening the church by cultivating a deeper experience of God's presence in their daily lives. They are also the senior leaders of Trinity Life Center, where there is a strong focus on equipping the next generation and seeing them fall passionately in love with Jesus. They are also the hosts of “The Father’s Heart” podcast. They reside in Lexington, Kentucky, with their beautiful daughter Cadence Grace.
