For Freedom

We are secure IN Christ, but are we secure in our First Amendment freedoms?

Posted on

Are you not glad we live in a country where we have many freedoms? Lord, please don’t allow anyone to ever change that! We have:
  • Freedom of Expression
  • Freedom of Speech
  • Freedom of Assembly
  • Freedom to Petition The Government
  • Freedom of Religion
  • Freedom To Bear Arms

We are a free people living in America and living in Christ!

Freedom In Christ

Paul commends the Galatians saying you have freedom in Christ.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5: 1)
  • Freedom was given from the yoke of the law.

Paul says it this way:
“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” (Galatians 5: 6)
  • Faith is not intellectual knowledge, but a trust in God’s grace that expresses itself in acts of love.
You, my brothers, were called to be free. The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5: 14)
When we fall from this law, a warning is given. Here it is:
If you keep on biting and deceiving each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” (Galatians 5: 15)

Freedom Was Removed

Jeremiah speaking now of being ruled over, or ruled by the Babylonians, a ruthless people. He says:

“There is none to free us from their hands.” (Lamentations 5: 8)
  • Loss of freedom opens the door for captivity.
  • Freedom lost, captivity gained.

God always intended for us to be free. His original plan was implementing free will, even though God knew it would end in disobedience.

  • Let’s appreciate what we have been given.

In his crying out, Jeremiah says to God:

“Remember, O Lord, what has happened to us, look and see our disgrace. Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers. (Lamentations 5: 1-2)

Oh, how we need God to secure our freedoms! Do you see the parallels? We are secure IN Christ, but are we secure in our First Amendment freedoms?
Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old.” (Lamentations 5: 21)
  • Being in captivity removes our freedom.
  • Being in captivity removes our rights as a free will man.

America was given the Bill of Rights to guarantee our rights as a people.

Lord, God, protect this nation, protect our freedoms! We declare:
We will walk about in freedom, for we have sought out your precepts.” (Psalm 119: 45)
  • Free men are being uncontrolled by affliction or oppression.

Jesus, protect our American freedom and our spiritual freedom, being free in the Holy Spirit, free from control and oppression. You came Jesus, to set the captives free!

Freedom For The Captive

If we look in the book of Psalms we see declarations of the following:

  • The Lord builds. “The Lord builds up…He gathers…He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147: 2-3)
  • The Lord sustains. “The Lord sustains the humble, but casts the wicked to the ground.” (Psalm 147: 6)

As I was closing this article, I heard these words coming forth:

“We are a free man and a free nation; God has set us free since creation.
He gave each man a free will; positioned us to receive Jesus who came to fulfill.
He’ll fulfill our purpose to worship Him; And will fill us with His Spirit up to the brim.
So He will overthrow all deceit with His power; Yes, His power alone through the man of the hour.
He’s set us free to reveal His glory, The wicked will one day see His fury.
He came for freedom to release men that are bound; So one day they’ll stand before Him being crowned.
His arm shall protect and provide; He’s pulling His children close to His side
The Lord sets prisoners free; He came for freedom for you and for me.”
