Finding Christ in the Storm

Help me to fix my eyes on You, even when others disrespect or disregard You.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” —Psalm 34:18

There are seasons in life when the storms seem relentless—when the very people meant to bring love and joy instead sow pain and sorrow. Perhaps you, like me, have wondered, “Lord, what am I supposed to learn from this constant pain? How can I keep going?”

These moments can feel like thieves of joy, especially during times meant for celebration. The enemy tries to use anger, disrespect, and chaos to pull our focus away from God. Yet even in these storms, God whispers: “I am with you. I see you. I love you.”

Christ calmed the sea for His disciples, but before He did, He reminded them: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27). In our storms, He extends the same words of assurance. His presence doesn’t mean the storm will disappear immediately, but it means He is in the boat with us, sustaining us through the waves.

If you are enduring the pain of an abusive relationship, know this: God’s heart is broken with yours. He sees the words and actions that others may never witness, and He knows the burdens you carry in silence. You are not alone.

Lean into His promises:

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
  • “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
  • “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God is your refuge, your fortress, and your strength (Psalm 46:1). Turn to Him in prayer and seek His guidance for the steps ahead—whether it’s healing within your marriage, setting boundaries, or finding peace in His presence even in the midst of suffering.

Reflection Questions:

1. How can I surrender my anger and frustration to God instead of carrying it alone?

2. What specific promises from Scripture can I cling to in this season?

3. Is God calling me to seek help or wise counsel from trusted people who can support me in my journey?

Prayer:

Father of Mercy,

You see every tear I’ve cried, every hurtful word spoken, and every moment when my spirit feels crushed. You know my longing for peace and joy, and yet I feel trapped in a storm that refuses to pass. Lord, be my anchor. Hold me steady when the waves of anger, pain, and despair threaten to pull me under.

Help me to fix my eyes on You, even when others disrespect or disregard You. Strengthen my faith so I can remain focused on Your goodness, not the chaos around me. Fill me with Your peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, if there are steps I need to take to protect my heart and spirit, show me the way. If healing is possible in my relationship, give me the courage to pursue it. If boundaries need to be established, grant me the wisdom to create them with grace.

Above all, remind me that I am deeply loved by You. Let Your love fill the empty spaces in my heart, and help me to trust that You are working all things for my good (Romans 8:28).

In Jesus’ name, I surrender my pain and my future into Your hands. Amen.
