I remember this vision like it happened 5 min ago….perhaps because God sits outside of time.
James 4:2
You have not, because you ask not.
The vision was profound.
Before me was a door.
A huge door.
An ancient door.
The door was wooden, with intricate carvings.
The door was hundreds of feet high.
Jeremiah 6:16
This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
The door was slightly cracked open.
It was too heavy for me to push, so I peered around the corner.
The room was filled with scrolls.
Big Scrolls.
Little Scrolls.
Big Books.
Little Books.
Maps, Directions, and Diagrams.
They were stacked from floor to ceiling.
Some were open.
Most were closed.
But in the open ones, the words and numbers appeared to be moving.
Problems were solving themselves on the page.
The pages seemed to have life.
They had power.
I asked the Lord “What is all of this?”
He said they “They’re the answers to many problems. They’re blueprints, strategies, and designs.”
I said, “Why are they here in this place? Are they for the future?”
The Lord said, “No, they’re from the past. However, no one has ever used them.”
I asked, “Why Lord?”
His response,
“Because my people don’t rest. They don’t take the time to rest in me. They toil in vain. Had they only asked, they would have received my strategies. Instead, they chose their own.”
End vision.
Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
It’s important to understand that this room wasn’t only filled with business plans, although those were included. There were scrolls and scrolls of salvation and evangelism strategies. There were medical cures and technological advances. There were maps of lost people, places, and things. There were battle plans, and answers for how to tear down strongholds, strongmen, powers, principalities, and darkness. And more! So – much – more!
It was mind-blowing.
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge.
However, because the people of God didn’t stop to rest in Him, they were unable to receive the plans and strategies of the Lord.
So – God’s plans went unused.
Make no mistake.
God wins.
But walking out our call requires obedience.
I fear rest.
I do.
I’m a do-er.
I realized that my fear of rest is actually a lack of faith.
Do I believe God’s ways are higher and better than my ways?
Or…
Do I need to always be “doing” so I can hold onto the illusion of control?
If I BELIEVE GOD – then REST must be my strategy.
I hear you, Lord.
I want your divine strategies and plans, not my own.
I thank you for your mercy!
I thank you for your grace!
I thank you for allowing me to enter into your rest.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
