Big words Christians use that mean little, to nothing to the world…
Propitiation
Sanctification
Hermeneutics
Eschatology
Atonement
Covenant
Justification
Heretic
Dispensation
Doctrine
Denomination
Providence
Soteriology
Tarry
Transgression
Unregenerate
Inerrancy
And…
Repent
Yes, repent….because we don’t use this beautiful word in its proper context most of the time.
God is not impressed with how often we can use big words.
I read somewhere that “big words legitimize.”
The gospel doesn’t need us to legitimize it.
Let’s seek to be effective, rather than impressive.
May I suggest we start with this….
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16
But God shows His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8
And let’s explain that REPENT isn’t a threat.
Repentance is a change of heart and mind that brings us closer to God. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and a sincere desire to know Him.
And maybe don’t quote the KJV word for word. It’s not 1611.
Paul knew his audience.
So should we.
The simple gospel has been effective for a really long time.
Let’s get back to that.
