While normally these two terms often apply to what we consider to be a Free Market society, there’s also something very much like it in the realm of the Spirit.
“And my God will SUPPLY (fill to the full) YOUR EVERY NEED ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY IN CHRIST JESUS.” Philippians 4:19
While God is able to supply everything that we require in order to live in this life, that supply doesn’t work strictly according to our Demand. His Supply works according to our needs at least until our hearts are adjusted to the point that our desires are transformed into His desires for our lives.
While I have heard so many prosperity doctrines and teachings over the course of the last 20 or 30 years, most of them are often attached to wrong motivations in the realm of the natural.
For the record, GOD DOESN’T WANT OR NEED OUR FINANCES OR THE THINGS WHICH WE POSSESS IN THE NATURAL REALM, HE WANTS US! He doesn’t really care if you possess money, He just doesn’t want your money to possess you!
Your love is what He’s really after, not your possessions. So many think that in order to serve God you have to be poor in the natural realm and they declare that money is Evil. What scripture actually declares is that it Is THE LOVE OF MONEY WHICH IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL (1 Timothy 6:10).
When your heart is taken over by the Love of money, or anything else, then it takes the place of THE LOVE OF GOD AND FOR GOD. When that which you possess all of a sudden takes possession of you, it is no longer an object for your use for it has become an object of your affection!
Money is a tool that can be powerfully used by God in the right hands and with the right heart. It can also be a destructive force when the enemy uses it for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way.
When Jesus addressed the young man in Mark 10:17-22, many people misunderstand the context of those passages, because many interpret it as possessing wealth as a bad thing. What Jesus Christ was actually after wasn’t the young man’s wealth, He was after a change in the young man’s affections towards his possessions:
“And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are [c]essentially and perfectly [d]morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? There is no one good—except God alone. You know the commandments: Do not kill, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother. And he replied to Him, Teacher, I have carefully guarded and observed all these and taken care not to violate them from my boyhood. AND JESUS, LOOKING UPON HIM, LOVED HIM, AND HE SAID TO HIM, YOU LACK ONE THING; GO AND SELL ALL YOU HAVE AND GIVE [the money] TO THE POOR, AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN; AND COME [and] ACCOMPANY ME [[j]walking the same road that I walk]. At that saying the man’s countenance fell and was gloomy, and he went away grieved and sorrowing, FOR HE WAS HOLDING GREAT POSSESSIONS.” Mark 10:17-22
While many interpret this as saying you cannot have money and serve Jesus Christ, the reality is that Money cannot have you, and you serve Jesus Christ.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MAMMON (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).” Matthew 6:24
God doesn’t have a problem supplying your needs and even your desires as long as your needs and desires do not supersede your desire For Him in Your Life!
“BUT SEEK (aim at and strive after) FIRST OF ALL HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (His way of doing and being right), AND THEN ALL THESE THINGS TAKEN TOGETHER WILL BE GIVEN YOU BESIDES.” Matthew 6:33
God’s Supply will always exceed your needs in every way as long as your needs never exceed your Desire for Him and His Kingdom! Lack is not an attribute of the Kingdom of God and never has been. So if you have a need in your Life, Jesus Christ has not only made provision for that need, He is more than desiring to SUPPLY it as long as it doesn’t ever carry your heart away from Him.
If you have possessions, God is okay with that, as long He has possession of you, and they don’t! They can be a powerful tool in the hands of those with the right hearts but also a tool of destruction in the wrong ones. Don’t allow love for the wrong things carry you away from the Lord, but instead, submit those things to God’s purposes and watch Him supply everything that you’ll ever need to further His Kingdom through your life.
Your Demands will never be able to exceed God’s Supply as long as your heart remains in the Hands of the Lord because His ability to Supply is Endless! (Psalms 50:10)
