Many of you have been in a season like Elijah, taken by the Lord to the brook Cherith, as described in 1 Kings 17:2-3 (KJV):
“And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.”
The brook Cherith represents a cutting, a separation, a torrent-bed— a place where God has led you. Not to be distanced from Him, but to be sustained, nourished, and fortified. In Hebrew, “Cherith” means “to cut off,” and while you may have felt cut off and alone, it was by God’s will and purpose that you were brought here. To cut away may hurt temporarily, and in the moments of this journey, you must come to embrace the cutting off.
Remember, the Lord says that He prunes the branches so that they may become fruitful, as it is written in John 15:2 (KJV): “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” We are called to multiply within the kingdom. Therefore, the Cherith season is needed, the suffering is needed, so that God can produce something in you that even you did not know was there.
In this place of separation, God has sustained you, feeding you and quenching your thirst— not only physically but spiritually. You may have felt broken, lonely, or cut off, but God has been using this time to bring you closer to Him, to remind you that nothing else can sustain or bring fruitfulness to your life but Him. This season has not been about what you can do or accomplish, but about allowing God to work in you, shaping your heart and soul for a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.
As 1 Kings 17:4 (KJV) says: “And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” The provision symbolized by the ravens isn’t about literal food but about spiritual nourishment; the sustaining of your soul, mind, and body. Without this divine provision, we are unable to truly grow and thrive. You have been fed by the ravens for a purpose: to learn that your highest calling is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul, to seek Him alone for true fulfillment. It is not about ministry or gifts but about the ultimate call to relationship with the Lord God Almighty.
Now, just as in 1 Kings 17:7 (KJV), “And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land,” the season at the brook has ended. The time for you to move forward has come. Though you were here for a time and though you have endured much, God’s miracle-working power is about to break forth in your life. The old things are passing away, and the new is coming. You have been set apart, and now you will impart even greater things to those around you, according to the purposes of God.
Cherith has been a season of sustaining and preparation, but now you will experience a newness, a great shift. God is positioning you for greatness, restoration, opportunity, and a fresh outpouring of His love and goodness.
I had to strip you
So that I could heal you.
I had to strip you
So that I could feed you.
I had to strip you
So that I could water you.
I had to strip you, My child,
So that I could— reveal you.
