Weeping For the Slain

If you are willing to look around you, you will be able to see those who are dying in sin and those who have walked away from God.

Oh, that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! Jeremiah 9:1

Whenever a loved one is harmed in any way, people mourn. No one likes to see a loved one harmed physically by someone or by an accident or by sickness. It is painful and causes most to weep, wishing that they could make things better, though often, unable to do so.

As Israel is being overrun and people are being killed, Jeremiah is weeping over those who have been slain in Israel and wishes he could be more full of tears day and night in sorrow. They were slain for rejecting God and living in sin.

In a number of nations around the world, there are physical wars that are occurring, and people are physically dying on a daily basis. As this occurs, people are mourning the loss of loved ones and friends. Others mourn the destruction and death occurring and are unable to stop it.

Even though it is horrible the number of physical deaths that are occurring, there is a greater massacre occurring in every nation. People are being slain in a lifestyle of sin and rejection of God. This is an eternal death that occurs by the choice of the individual who rejects the saving message of Jesus.

Every believer must open one’s eyes and see the death that is occurring both inside and outside the church doors. It should cause the believer to weep day and night at the loss of life each and every day. It should also provoke the believer to go out and be the witness of Jesus, to tell the world about Jesus and how they can be saved, and to turn wayward believers back to God.

If you are willing to look around you, you will be able to see those who are dying in sin and those who have walked away from God. As you see these people, ask yourself if it breaks your heart or not. Just as it breaks God’s heart to see people die in sin, it should also break your heart and cause you to weep day and night.

Ask God how you can be a witness and seek Him to touch the hearts of those people drawing them to Him and giving them life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to see those being slain in sin; that your heart will break for the lost as God’s heart is breaking; and that you will be willing to tell the world about Jesus.
