3 Reasons to Feel Confident in Every Season

As I reflect on Psalm 139, I’m reminded that we have every reason to feel confident in every season!

In each of our lives, seasons change. We experience seasons of fruitfulness and barrenness, joy and sorrow, excitement and monotony. The writer of Ecclesiastes said it best: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Though we understand that seasons change, a new one can often stir up anxiety and uncertainty.

As my father-in-law prepared to transition from earth to heaven, Steve and I sat in his living room reading Psalm 139 to him. It was his favorite psalm—and one of mine too. Recently, I found myself meditating on this rich chapter again, reflecting on the truths David, the psalmist, so beautifully shared. As we face new seasons, these truths are a source of comfort and strength.

This past week, I’ve been meditating on Psalm 139. It’s filled with comforting truths that, when internalized, can bolster our confidence. Walking into a new season often stirs up insecurities or unease within us. Yet, as I reflect on this psalm, I’m reminded that we have every reason to feel confident in every season!

1. You Are Known.
“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me; you are familiar with all my ways. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down” (Psalm 139:1-4).

At the core of our humanity is a deep desire to be known. This is why we often feel uneasy walking into a crowded room where we don’t know anyone and no one knows us—it stirs up anxiety. The good news is that God knows you completely. He knows when you sit and when you stand. He understands what motivates you and what drains you. He can untangle your confusion and quiet your chaos. He comprehends your thought processes fully. Your feelings make sense to Him because He empathizes in ways no one else can.

2. You Are Held.
“You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me” (Psalm 139:5).

David goes on to write that there is nowhere we can go to escape God’s presence. His hold on us is secure. We are hemmed in behind and before, held firmly in His almighty hands. As you step into a new season, you can be confident because God’s grip is steady. Whatever challenges lie ahead, His presence will surround you. You are never alone.

3. You Are Loved.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13).

You were created in love, and you continue to be loved. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Many people struggle to feel God’s love, even when they intellectually know He loves them. If that’s you, consider praising God daily for His love. Doing so can open your heart to experience His love more fully. Choose worship songs that remind you of His love. Post a verse like Zephaniah 3:17 on your mirror, where you’ll see it and meditate on it daily. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you experience God’s love more deeply. Remember this: God wants you to feel His love!

Friend, may you walk confidently in 2025. May you know that you are fully known, securely held, and deeply loved. Rest in these truths and relax in God’s loving care for you. He has everything under control, and you can trust Him.
