Clouds On the Horizon

God is Almighty and that nothing is beyond His ability.

The Lord said to Moses, “Is the Lord’s power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not.”

NUMBERS 11:23 (NASB)

How often we look out the window and see dark clouds building on the horizon; where we live I can see clouds coming down over the top of of Falkland Hill in the Lomond Hills, and they either come straight for us or turn east. On the drive back home last night, we were heading back into what looked like a stormy sky in Glenrothes, but thankfully the cloudy threat was an empty one.

We often speak of ‘clouds on the horizon’ of life when a crisis appears; that was the mindset of the people of Israel who were feeling deprived of food, particularly meat. Moses also felt the presence of these metaphorical clouds rolling over him from the mood of the people; this can be the case often, that our mood may be inherited from another source nearby. In the gloom of the situation, even Moses questioned their fate under the care of God, which brings us to today’s verse. This verse is a call to faith, for Moses to remember that God is Almighty and that nothing is beyond His ability. It is also a call to us today in our storms of life as God’s children in a dark world.

Dear reader, are you feeling downcast by the clouds on the horizon? Take heart and remember your Father is Almighty God; He has everything in the palm of His hand, including you. The clouds may pass without a drop of rain falling, and even if it does, it is only temporary. Your clouds will pass in due time – in His perfect time.
