Are we shining brightly for the world to see Jesus?
It’s interesting where the two words, salt, and light, were positioned in the Bible. Jesus taught about salt and light right after the Sermon on the Mount, (The Beatitudes), the series that we just completed.
Position is important, isn’t it?
When a lamp in a room is positioned on a table, it’s to provide the room with light. It would be foolish to hide that lamp because it was purposed to not just be a display or an ornament but to give light to everyone in the house. So, it is with us!
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5: 14
In Biblical days, people used small clay lamps that burned olive oil drawn up by a wick.
The Old Testament even described to us, before Jesus came on the scene, that, “The light from lamps represented the glory of the Lord reflected in the consecrated lives of His people.”
The lights of a city that are on a hill cannot be hidden. Lights are to bring illumination.
The prophet Isaiah proclaimed this beautiful word saying, “Arise, shine for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” Isaiah 60: 1
He doesn’t stop there. He instructs us what to do with that light by saying, “See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you.” Isaiah 60: 2
The prophet points out for us to see not just the darkness in the earth, but the thick darkness that’s over people.
Isn’t Jesus all about saving people from eternal darkness? Eternal darkness is horrific.
This light that Isaiah is talking about is not any ordinary light. It is Jesus, the Light of The World! He is declaring the Glory of God is coming to the earth.
Now, as Christ followers, God’s glory is upon us, is in us. (Selah)
Isaiah sees that “Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.” Isaiah 60: 3
He then projects the vision and says, “Lift up your eyes and look about you…” Isaiah 60: 4
There is much broader implication here. Jesus the light of the world has come. There is much darkness all around us.
The book of John has many scriptures speaking of the light of Jesus. One of my favorites is this: “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12: 46
Earlier, Jesus was teaching them saying, “Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” John 12: 36
We are children of the Light.
Our Abba (Daddy God) is instructing us to arise and shine. People are bound in thick darkness. Go set them free! His glory needs to be dispersed upon the world, upon the peoples.
How can we be dispensers of His light?
If position of light is important, then we can ask::
- Where are those dark places that we can be positioned to dispel that darkness?
- How can we shine and bring His light to reflect His glory?
- Wait for God to speak with specific blueprints.
- Obey, recruit, and gather the ones you are called to go with.
I believe that God is positioning us while implementing plans and strategies for His Light to be released. Why?
The Light belongs in the darkness. Darkness is over the people and in the earth.
Go Light Your World!
