You are the Apple of God’s Eye

God told the Israelites they were stiff-necked and rebellious, yet, still, the apple of His eye.

Yes, you are the apple of God’s eye. There is no one like you.  You are one of a kind.  His love for you will never change.

King David cried out to the Lord during his time of being under attack and he said, “Keep me as the apple of your eye, hide me in the shadow of your wings.”  Psalm 17: 8

The phrase “apple of your eye,” was taken from The Song of Moses from Deuteronomy 32 when he recited an entire song from beginning to end.   One of those verses said, “In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.  He shielded him and cared for him; He guarded him as the apple of his eye.”  Deuteronomy 32: 10

The phrase literally means “little man of his eye,” referring to the pupil, a very delicate part of the eye that is essential for vision and must be protected at all costs.

The pupil is cared for and protected because of its great value.  So, when God tells us we are the apple of His eye, He is saying that we are of great value and worth protecting always.

He even instructs us to “…Guard My teachings as the apple of your eye.”  Proverbs 17: 2

The biblical expression of this phrase is that YOU ARE precious in His sight.  He is watching you closely and attentively as He cares for you.

God told the Israelites they were stiff-necked and rebellious, yet, still, the apple of His eye.

What an amazing loving God we serve.  We are cherished and loved unconditionally.

He has a parental, protective love for us, just like we have for our children.

An interesting fact is that the purpose of the pupil is to allow light to enter the eye so it can be focused on the retina to begin the process of sight. The pupil changes its size depending on the amount of light in the environment, dilating in the dark and constricting in the bright.  This helps to control the exposure and clarity of the vision.

Could the spiritual analogy be this We are children of the Light that need to stay focused to allow us to see as He sees.  If we are in a continual environment of God’s light, it will help us to discern what’s in darkness and what’s full of light.  This process brings clarity to our vision.

We must allow the Light to enter to see as He sees.

We are of great value to Him and to others because Jesus the Light of the World is within us.  You are a delicate and important part of His creation, for His plan and His purpose.

By identifying us as the apple of His eye, He is declaring our value and our purpose of being light in the darkness.  Allow His focus and process to clarify His vision and bring exposure to His great love.
