As we conclude our You are Series, I am ending with this exaltation right from God’s Word, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2: 10
Some translations use the word workmanship for masterpiece.
The Greek language for this word has the connotation of a “work of art.”
Yes, my friends you are a “work of art” created by our God, the master artist, that formed you to be beautiful. There is no one like you.
During our recent trip out west, while we were seeing the beauty of creation, I became very much aware that God’s beautiful expansive creation is for all to see.
Yet, there is one “work of art” that stands above the rest–YOU. You are His masterpiece.
One author describes it this way, “He chose to manifest the reality of His brilliance through creation, but you alone reveal the magnificent expression of His love.” Dr. Brian Simmons
As Jesus’ followers, His brilliant light and love shine forth from us. That’s why God completed the verse above saying, “…So, we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2 10b
We were created for God’s glory, everyone whom He has made.
So, what are the good things (works) that have been laid out for us to do?
One commentary says this: “That beautiful thing God is making of us is active in good works. These are just as much a part of God’s predestined plan as anything else is. These good works are valid evidence that someone is walking as one of God’s chosen.”
I was reminded that as God’s chosen, we are told to “Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf…
You are My witnesses, declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am he.
Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no Savior.
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed–I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are My witnesses, declares the Lord, that I am God.
Yes, and from ancient days I am He. No one can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?” Isaiah 43: 8,10-13
Our good works of being His chosen ones are simply being His witnesses.
Our lives are to be a living testimony and demonstration, (audibly and visibly) with evidence of the goodness and love of God to others of what He has done in us and through us.
What we have seen, heard, and learned about Him must be shared in word and deed.
