What do people “without understanding” look like? There was a phrase that jumped out at me saying, “A people without understanding will come to ruin.” (Hosea 4: 14)
Here’s what I found what “without understanding” looks like. In fact, we just read it in Mark’s gospel. “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in the parables, so that, “They may be ever seeing, but never perceiving, ever hearing but never understanding.” (Mark 4: 10-12)
One who is without understanding is one who is under “A spirit of prostitution leading them astray; they are unfaithful to their God.” (Hosea 4: 12) Makes us think, doesn’t it? When this spirit is in one’s heart, one cannot acknowledge the Lord.
Listen to what one having understanding looks like:
- “A man of understanding delights in wisdom.” (Proverbs 10: 23)
- “A man of understanding holds his tongue.” (Proverbs 11: 12)
- “A man of understanding keeps a straight course.” (Proverbs 15: 21)
- “Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23: 23)
- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3: 5)
- “Though it cost you all you have, get understanding.” (Proverbs 4: 7) (Shared from Hosea 4: 11b -5: 4, Modified)
David just made his son, Solomon, king, who was a man of wisdom and understanding. When we walk in the ways of our God, we walk in the way of understanding.
Yes, the king is getting things in order. Wisdom and understanding will get us there.
(Shared from 1 Kings 1, Modified)
David’s reign is remembered throughout Israel. A sign in Jerusalem is still upright saying, The City of David. Even as Jesus was approaching the city of Jerusalem, on his triumphant entry, the ones who followed Jesus, shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” (Mark 11: 9-10)
A man or woman of understanding understands! “May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 7)
(Shared from Mark 11: 1-14, Modified)
Walking in the way of understanding leads us on paths we never thought possible. Our human understanding is limited, but our Godly understanding is unlimited. This way is above all other ways, which guards and keeps us in peace.
