Wisdom Is Supreme: Get Wisdom

God delights for our path in life to be secure.

If I were to ask you, what book in the Bible do you think of when I say the word, wisdom?  If you answered Proverbs, you are correct!  In fact, our title, “Wisdom Is Supreme, Get Wisdom,” comes right from the book of Proverbs 4: 7.

The verse actually says, “Wisdom is supreme, therefore, get wisdom.”

When King Solomon, who wrote most of the book, inserted the word, therefore, He said, “For this reason.”

As we get started let’s look at a little history of the word proverb.  In Hebrew, the word is translated, taunt, oracle, and parable, so its meaning is considerably broader than the English term.

Most of the proverbs are short, compact statements that express truths about human behavior.

Isn’t it our human behavior that seems to get us in trouble?

Proverbs were written to make us wiser and to help correct this human behavior.  The power of the Holy Spirit in our lives will make those corrections as we yield to Him.

This book is a practical book on the art of living and bases wisdom on living in the fear (reverence) of God.

This reverence is a path to life and security.

God is not a hard taskmaster.  He is not waiting for us to make a mistake so He can bop us over the head with His yardstick.

He delights for our path in life to be secure.

He’s a good, good Father!  He knows how we can get pulled away and distracted from following Him.

How do we get wisdom?  One way is that we must trust in the Lord and not in ourselves.

If we look at the dictionary’s definition of the word wisdom, we see that it is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

God has given His children a blueprint for being wise and living a life that is secure.

His blueprint is His Word, which is alive and active in our lives today.

It certainly is not a dead book.

As we begin this series, I want to close with this, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”  Proverbs 1: 7, NIV

Don’t play the role of the fool.

We don’t want to be the one who in our old age who will look back and acknowledge that we have played the fool.

So, where are we on the scale?

Do we have a loving reverence for God that includes submission to His Lordship and to the commands of His Word?

God is exhorting us to embrace wisdom to help us in our life’s pathway.

Wisdom is not to be held at a distance, but to be clutched and held close to our hearts.

My friends, the days are evil, and God wants to show us some things that bring security into our lives like never before.

Wisdom Is Supreme, Therefore, For This Reason, Get Wisdom.
