Are you watching and praying as Jesus instructed His disciples when He went into Gethsemane? He needed prayer coverage for what He was about to endure. The God of the universe was asking for his friends to pray for Him. Do we understand the power of our prayers and what they accomplish?
Jesus said, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Mark 14: 38)
When the spirit of a man is controlled by the Holy Spirit, it’s strong! That’s why we need Him.
Remember David’s prayer, “Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.” (Psalm 51: 12)
- Our spirit needs to be willing (yielded) to the Holy Spirit to be fully sustained as God intended.
- Yielding and relinquishing control is the key.
- Choose to yield even if it’s the unpopular way.
- Let go and let God then watch Him move. (Shared from Mark 14: 32-72, Modified)
Keeping watch is keeping with God. God speaks through Hosea saying, “When Israel was a child, I loved him and out of Egypt I called my Son. But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me.” (Hosea 11: 1-2)
- God understands rebellious children. He has many of them. More than we can count.
I look at the rebellion and think, “How could they not see God’s hand on their lives? How could they continue to turn away? God said, “My people are determined to turn from me.” (Hosea 11: 7)
Let His Holy Spirit lead and guide you to the Rock.

Keeping Watch opens the door for a visitation. Solomon finished building the temple of the Lord and the royal palace and had achieved all he had desired to do. And the Lord appeared to him saying, “I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.” (1 Kings 9: 3)
- God’s eyes and heart are always towards His temple, His people.
“From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind from His dwelling place; He watches all who live on the earth–He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.”
(Psalm 33: 13-15)
(Shared from 1 Kings 9, Modified)
