Do we obey the signs that are before us? Do we even see the signs? Do we listen to what we have been told?
As a child do you remember sneaking something in the house when you were told you were not allowed? I had a friend who snuck her boyfriend through her window in the middle of the night and got caught. Yep, she was grounded for two weeks. That meant no phone, no friends, she was not allowed to see anyone or go anywhere, for those designated two weeks. Seemed like an eternity.
King Jeroboam’s son gets sick and he is suddenly interested in hearing from God about his son, through the prophet, Ahijah in Shiloh. He tells his wife, “Go, disguise yourself, so you won’t be recognized as the wife of Jeroboam. Then go to Shiloh, Ahijah the prophet is there–the one who told me I would be king over this people.” (1 Kings 14: 2-3)
He tells her to take an abundance of food for “He will tell you what will happen to the boy.” (1 Kings 4: 3) So she went!
The prophet, Ahijah, could not see; his sight was gone because of his age. Oh! But could he hear!!
Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps at the door, he said, “Come in wife of Jeroboam. Why this pretense?” (1 Kings 14: 6)
- It’s hard to fool a prophet and to fool our God.
- No need to pretend or lie. Our God sees and knows.
She listens to the word of the Lord as God declares, “Disaster on the house of Jeroboam.” (1 Kings 14: 10) He has made for himself other gods and idols made of metal, provoking God to anger. When He said, “Have no other gods before me,” He was serious.
Jeroboam’s wife gets up and leaves. As soon as she steps over the threshold of her house, the boy dies. Shortly after, Rehoboam dies and his other son is made king.

Joel, the prophet is crying out to the people as he sees, “A day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was of old, nor ever will be in ages to come.” (Joel 2: 2)
He is warning of approaching danger declaring, “Blow the trumpet in Zion, signal the alarm from my Holy Mountain!” (Joel 2: 1)
The imagery of war is released, “They all march in line, not swerving from their course.” (Joel 2: 7)
- Following God’s course, releases us from the curse.
He sees the nations in anguish. It’s a call to repentance and prayer.

The apostle Paul is calling his people to repentance and to the cross. He is leading the people of the New Testament to the place that some of the Old Testament prophets saw but never received. He says, “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” (1 Corinthians 1: 18-19)
If you want power and wisdom, it’s in Jesus and the power of the cross!
Don’t be fooled! The Greeks were looking for wisdom because of the Greek philosophers. The Jews demanded miraculous signs, “But we preach Christ crucified.” (1 Corinthians 1: 23)
- “Signs and wonders follow those who believe.” (Mark 16: 17)
- Believe and follow Christ, and signs will follow you.
Yes, the crucified Christ is the power that saves and the wisdom that transforms. “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus–who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1: 30)
(Shared from 1 Corinthians 1: 18-31, Modified)
Watch for and see the signs. For there is a believing and a following coming like never before. The line will be established, will be drawn, for the believer, and non-believer. No more half-hearted following will be allowed.
There is a time that the Body of Christ will be crossing over and into their inheritance of who we are in Christ. Our God is aligning us and getting us ready like never before. The army of God is being strengthened, is being embellished and adorned as His Bride, wearing army boots, displaying the beauty of the Bridegroom and the warrior strength of a soldier. The nations will shake in their boots, while we are trampling down the enemy and taking territory. “There’s no such thing as self-rescue, pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.” (Psalm 49: 7) Recognize we need Him!
“For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others. This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. But My God will redeem My life from the grave; He will surely take Me to Himself.” (Psalm 49: 10, 13, 15)
