As we continue with the sounding of the trumpets in Revelation, we may ask what’s the significance. The purpose of these trumpets is to announce and also sound a warning. Much like the watchman on the wall would blast the trumpet to warn the city of a coming army, so too these trumpets sound the warning that judgment is, in fact, coming. For God’s enemies, all who are lost, these trumpets sound destruction. John writes:
The Fifth Angel sounded His trumpet. “And I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. ” (Revelation 9: 1-3) This is the first woe.
What’s the Abyss? It’s a place of confinement for Satan and evil spirits. I have used this term randomly, but I will think twice before I do so again.
The Greek word means very deep or bottomless. The Hebrew word is abaddon, and the Hebrew name is Apollyon, which means destroyer.
Satan, once called Lucifer, was called a star who fell from heaven. “Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy.” (John 10: 10)
Jesus won the battle at the cross. The servants of God are not affected by all the destruction, because of the seal of God.
Who was affected by this destruction? “Only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.” (Revelation 9: 4)
The Sixth Angel sounded his trumpet. “And I heard a voice coming from the horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” They were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of the mounted troops was two hundred million. I heard their number.” (Revelation 9: 13-16) This is the second woe.
Horses and riders John sees. The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails.
God in His graciousness is still giving opportunity for the rest of mankind to repent. However, some did not stop worshipping demons and idols of gold–idols who cannot see or hear or walk.

Trumpets Of Praise Going Forth
These are the sounding trumpets we like! Those that adore the Lord saying, “You are clothed in splendor and majesty. He wraps Himself in light as with a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of HIs upper chambers on their waters.” (Psalm 103: 1-3)
Everything we have on this earth and above is from God. That alone is reason to join in with the angels and give praise!

The Trumpets Sound For The Dedication
Celebration comes forth after the wall of Jerusalem is done and dedicated to the Lord. The Levites were brought in to celebrate in thanksgiving and praise. “Ezra the scribe led the procession.” (Nehemiah 12: 6)
They rejoiced greatly and “The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.” (Nehemiah 12: 43)
Looking ahead, “In that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing…and those who were exiled…will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 27: 13)
Yes, the Lord will be worshiped with the regathering of His people.
