After a gruesome assassination yesterday of Charlie Kirk, the assassination revealed something that time and human energies cannot erase. Yesterday, we saw a raw and public display of evil that is still living among us. That evil will do anything it takes to silence the truth, even murder those who reveal the truth.
This morning, I read through a list of the offspring of Noah’s sons who repopulated the Earth after the flood. Their offspring carried with them the seeds of evil that would manifest in the repopulation of the Earth. It was an evil that could only be overcome by Jesus Christ. He is the only one who has the power to overcome our sin.
Among Noah’s sons were offspring who would repopulate the Earth, creating cities and kingdoms with names like Canaan, Babylon, Assyria, Ninevah, the Philistines, Hittites, Jebusites, and the rest of the “ites”. Their offspring would also produce cities like Sodom and Gomorrah. It wasn’t a rosy and cheerful repopulation of the Earth. Some of the offspring would eventually be the ones who would wage war against God and His followers.
There are many fools now speaking like it has been every time when the horror of evil is manifested in the public square. Don’t be a fool, allowing your emotions to speak instead of God’s Spirit. We are called to speak the truth in love, as Paul wrote. Speaking the truth will put us in places of jeopardy when our voice is heard.
The book of Proverbs addresses the mindset of the fools in our culture and, too sadly, some within the Church.
“Fools think their own way is right” (Proverbs 12:15)
“Slandering others makes you a fool” (10:18).
“The mouths of fools are their ruin; they trap themselves with their lips” (18:7).
A social and spiritual ruin is coming to the fools who have believed a lie, declaring it to be the truth. Charlie died because he spoke the truth with the clarity of love. Just as it was when Noah’s sons repopulated the Earth, evil remained and is ready to be revealed at an opportune time. A fool will misinterpret the death of a man like Charile Kirk and join with the mocking crowd. God will use Charlie’s death as a seed to produce a new harvest of souls, something a fool cannot see or believe.
