Scripture Reading:
Mark 10:1-12
As Jesus journeyed through Judea and beyond the Jordan, crowds flocked to Him, eager to absorb His teachings. In this passage, the Pharisees approach Jesus with a challenging question: “Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?” Their intent was not genuine inquiry but to test Him, to trap Him in a controversial issue.
Jesus, with divine wisdom, redirects them to the scriptures, asking, “What did Moses command you?” The Pharisees respond that Moses permitted divorce through a written bill. Jesus acknowledges this but explains it was due to the hardness of their hearts. He then elevates the conversation by reminding them of God’s original design for marriage.
“From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”
Reflection:
Marriage, as described by Jesus, is not merely a human contract but a divine covenant. It is a union where two individuals become one, bonded by love and commitment, reflecting God’s design and intention from the creation. This sacred bond is meant to be unbroken, illustrating the permanence and faithfulness that mirrors God’s unwavering love for us.
In a world where relationships are often seen as disposable, Jesus calls us back to the heart of what marriage is meant to be. It is a covenant that requires sacrifice, grace, and unwavering commitment. It is a relationship where love is not merely an emotion but a deliberate act of will, choosing to honor, support, and cherish one another through all seasons of life.
As women, whether married or single, we are called to reflect this steadfast love in all our relationships. We are called to embody grace, patience, and a heart that seeks to nurture and sustain the bonds we form. For those who are married, this means seeing your marriage as a sacred space where God’s love is made manifest.
For those who are single, it means honoring the relationships you have and treating them with the same reverence and commitment to love that Christ exemplifies.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of relationships and the sacred bond of marriage. Help us to see our relationships through Your eyes, valuing them as You do. Give us the grace to love with patience and commitment, reflecting Your unwavering love in all we do. Strengthen our marriages and all our bonds, that they may be a testament to Your faithfulness. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
Action Step:
Reflect today on the relationships in your life. How can you bring more of God’s unwavering love into them? How can you honor the sacred bonds you have formed? Pray for the grace to love as Christ loves, with a heart that is tender, forgiving, and committed to the well-being of others.
