If God speaks to you in secret, be careful who and when you share it with. Some things are just for that person, and no one else. When Joseph shared his dream, “His brothers said to him, ‘Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?’ And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he said.” (Genesis 37: 8)
His father knew the gift that was within him. “His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.” (Genesis 37: 11) If you are a favored child in your home, don’t wear your royal robe around on your shoulders in front of your siblings.
“Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than any of his other sons….he made him a richly ornamented robe for him.” (Genesis 37: 3) I guess he forgot that brothers and sisters count how many gifts each one has under the Christmas tree. Every parent knows, they must be the same number showing no partiality. Parents never have favorites, either! :0
- Keep your distance from angry, jealous brothers and sisters. Hard to do if you’re in the same house(hold) of God.
Whatever man does to us, God can still intervene. His purpose for us will be carried out. After Joseph’s brothers sold him, “The Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard.” (Genesis 37: 36)
- What the enemy intended for evil, God can turn it around for good.
How? “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. (Psalm 28: 7) Joseph must have had this verse in his heart throughout his entire life.
Jesus was addressing the issue of wearing the royal robe also, as we read in Luke. If you’ve been given a royal robe of honor, no need to parade around with it.
- Our position of highest honor is to be seated with Christ in heavenly places.
These flowing, long, white, linen, royal robes were fringed and almost to the floor. They were worn by the teachers of the law. The went into the market place and loved to be greeted for all to see.
- Let humility be shown and worn.
- Humility is seen and noticed by others without a word being spoken.
The most important seat in the synagogue was a bench positioned right in front of “the ark” that contained the sacred scrolls. Those who sat there were highly visible by all the worshipers in the synagogue. They loved being positioned there.
- What we do secretly for God is seen by Him and doesn’t always need to be displayed for man. Be secure in Him.
“Delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed us with garments of salvation and arrayed us in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61: 10)
- When you know the adornment of Jesus is upon you, there is no need to announce it. Others will clearly see it.
