Springtime is certainly in the air! Every morning as I awaken, I hear the sound of doves cooing in the trees behind my house. What a pleasant sound to begin the day with. It’s a sound to awaken. Yes, a word that is certainly associated with spring. Since I was curious to see other words associated with the word awaken, I went to the dictionary, and here’s what I learned.
Some synonyms for this word awaken are excited, kindle, provoke, revive, rouse, stimulate, stir up, and wake. The list continued with additional words such as breathe life into and call forth.
As I looked at some of these synonyms, I discovered they could be associated with the dove in the Bible, a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Isn’t it the job of the Holy Spirit to awaken, revive, stir up, breathe life into, and call forth?
Each morning we are given a new day as we awaken and as each petal on every flower responds to the promise of new life. Leaves are budding forth and blossoms are pushing forward from the soil stimulated by the sunlight and warmth in the air.
New life is calling forth from the earth, and so is the Holy Spirit of God.
“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” Romans 8: 19 One commentary explained it this way: This is because the creation was subjected to futility (hopelessness, fruitlessness, ineffectiveness) on account of man’s sin and will benefit from the ultimate redemption of men. The earth is looking forward to being perfected and made right too! Why?
Creation was also subjected to corruption because of man’s sin.
Boy, sin destroys everything, doesn’t it?
The scripture I mentioned above is from Romans 8, in which the entire chapter is titled “Life Through The Spirit.” How can we rise above this corruption in the world? Live a life in the Spirit. He (Holy Spirit) enables us to endure whatever is thrown at us.
Could God be speaking through this analogy about creation and about new life in the Spirit?
Here’s an answer to that question right from scripture: “Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come; the cooing of doves is heard in our land.” Song of Songs 2: 12
The prophet Jeremiah made this statement years ago, “ Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But my people do not know the requirements of the LORD.” Jeremiah 8: 7
I asked the Lord this question: “What are you requiring of us?”
He answered quite quickly: “With each sound of the dove, there is a calling forth, an awakening that the Spirit of God is yearning, is beckoning us to come unto Him. As flowers appear on the earth, so I am looking for My children to bud and blossom and come forth in Me. Embrace and listen to the sound that is going forth throughout the earth.
Open your ears, eyes, and your heart, for I am enhancing and heightening your senses to be sensitive not just to natural things but to My Spirit. For I have said, “It’s not by might, not by power, but by My Spirt, says the Lord.” Zechariah 4: 6 For My work is not established on the merits of human accomplishments. My work depends on the powerful action of My Spirit.
For throughout history, discouragement and opposition are the things that delay and prevent the building, the building of my temple, now called My house. For I have promised that you would finish, finish well as you labor; know that your labor is not in vain. For I am assuring the presence of my Spirit to strengthen and carry you to finish well. For “My Spirit dwells among you; fear not.” Haggai 2: 5 Listen to what I am speaking, and for what My Spirit is yearning for.”
