What additional steps can we take to help reposition ourselves for repair? I kept hearing this phrase:
Reposition In Submission
I sense that as soon as some hear the word “submission,” negative thoughts come because of past circumstances or distorted teachings on this word.
Actually, the word, submission, has some beautiful definitions biblically. Here are some of them as we get started:
- Willingly yielding to authority, guidance, or will of another.
- Acting with humility and respect.
- Reflecting a willingness to align ourselves with God’s order and purpose.
- Trusting in God’s divine plan.
The one example I’ve heard that speaks volumes to me is that submission is simply yielding.
When we relinquish control to the Holy Spirit, we are yielding.
That’s a beautiful place to be in with the things of God.
Let’s look at our key scripture again as we progress and digest it:
“Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called Repairer of the Breach, (Repairer of Broken Walls) the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.” (Isaiah 58: 12, NKJV)
I’ve underlined the section above we’re going to digest. It’s speaking of foundations. Foundations are very important in our life.
What Is The Purpose Of A Foundation In Construction?
- Foundations are the main reason behind the stability of any structure. The stronger the foundation is, the more stable the structure is.
As I type, I’m hearing the lyrics of the song, Firm Foundation by Cody Carnes.
Christ is a firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaking
I’ve never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
Cause, He’s never let me down
He’s faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?
He won’t
He won’t.
So, I ask the question: Is Jesus our firm foundation? He is our rock, our cornerstone that we can stand upon.
Remember, when He commissioned Peter, He declared, “Upon this rock (Jesus) I’ll build my church.”
Peter’s name was Simon before Jesus changed it to Peter, which means rock.
Peter was the foundational leader of the early church. This foundation, this structure, was ordained by God as He was building and establishing His church, His Christ-followers.
Let’s reflect back to our highlighted phrase in our key scripture: “...You shall raise up the foundations of many generations.”
Within this portion of scripture is the promise of being rebuilt, restored, and renewed?
Here’s why!
Remember the famous chapter of Isaiah 61 when Jesus stood up in the temple, opened the scroll, and declared, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor…”
As Jesus was declaring Himself, the coming Messiah, who is in front of you, He was declaring God’s redemptive plan for humanity.
This chapter offers hope, restoration, rebuilding, and renewal while pointing to the work of Jesus in our lives.
Jesus is our foundation raised up to bring forth many generations to follow after Him and His ways.
So, as we come to a close, here are some reasons why these stepping stones are important in our lives as we are reestablished and grounded in His foundation.
He came to restore, renew, and rebuild us so that…
- …We will rebuild the ancient ruins (waste places) and restore the places that have been left devastated.
Yes, there was physical devastation to their land, but there are emotional places inside of people today that have left devastation, heartache, and ruin.
- He came to restore, rebuild, and renew us.
These places in our hearts have been devastated throughout generations.
- Generations have suffered the pain of loss, but I decree that He came to set the captives free.
Yes, that’s you and me; that’s also through you and me.
Stand on the firm foundation in Jesus. Let Him rebuild that structure in you with Him. It’s firm and will hold up everything else.
As a Christ-Follower, the Spirit of the Lord is upon you to be sent. Let Him reestablish your foundation in Him, then watch Him send you out to help others.
Allow Him to be the rock upon which you stand. Our strength and stability come through Him.
- Read His Word.
- Talk to Him. We call that prayer.
- Surround yourself with Godly people who will help to establish the foundations of our faith.
- Listen, yield, and obey. He’s the only way!
