So, what’s next after we position ourselves on the rock, on the foundation of Jesus, our rock? Glad you asked! We start climbing.
As we look at the picture above it seems like that brave young gal is dangling from the rock. If you look closely, she is tightly fastened to a rope and anchored for stability.
If we start to climb higher in spiritual things, being fastened and tightly anchored is part of growing up in God.
When our hearts are fastened to the Lord, we go higher, deeper, and wider in the things of God.
If we are not fastened and anchored, we could dangle and fall. Climbing higher requires help.
One commentary said this: “In the Bible, “fasten” generally refers to securing or binding something firmly, often symbolizing a commitment or adherence to God’s commands or principles. It can also imply establishing a close relationship or connection, as seen in passages encouraging believers to hold fast to their faith.”
Standing on a flat rock is a good foundation, but to a rock climber, that’s just the beginning, for there’s so much more to attain.
The same principle applies to our spiritual journey. Standing upon the rock is a sure foundation; however, as disciples, God calls us to fasten our lives to commit and to adhere to His commands as we establish a closer relationship with Him.
Are we anchoring and securing our walk in faith and Biblical values with worship and scripture?
Going deeper and higher on our spiritual journey is part of where God wants His people to climb.
Rock climbers are very focused as they ascend.
God’s calling us up higher.
He’s calling us closer.
He’s calling us together.
He’s calling us to commitment.
He’s calling us to soar.
He’s calling us to respond…
“Hear my cry, O God; Listen to my prayer.
From the end of the earth, I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].
For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me,
A strong tower against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever.
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.” Psalm 61: 1-4, AMP
